PM releases video of Hima's win track, says he was 'touched deeply'

New Delhi, July 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday released a video of Hima Das, the first Indian Woman to win a gold in World Athletic track, and said her getting emotional while singing the National Anthem touched him "deeply".

"Unforgettable moments from Hima's victory. Seeing her passionately search for the Tricolour immediately after winning and getting emotional while singing the National Anthem touched me deeply," Mr Modi tweeted.

"I was extremely moved," wrote the Prime Minister said, adding, "Which Indian won’t have tears of joy seeing this".

Hima Das, an athlete from Assam, won gold medal in the 400 m track in the World Under-20 Championship recently held in Finland.

In an equally emotional Twitter missive, President Ram Nath Kovind has written: "This is India’s first ever track gold in a World Championship. A very proud moment for Assam and India, Hima; now the Olympic podium beckons".

Earlier congratulating on her achievement, Prime Minister Modi had tweeted: "India is delighted and proud of athlete Hima Das, who won a historic Gold in the 400m of World U20 Championships.

Congratulations to her! This accomplishment will certainly inspire young athletes in the coming years".

'While you all were sleeping, I rocked the world,' said 18-year-old Hima Das to her father after the win over phone.
