Magisterial probe ordered into death of youth in army firing in north Kashmir

Srinagar, July 12: Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of a youth in firing by Army patrol party in Trehgam in the frontier district of Kupwara last evening.

However, Army spokesman said troops opened fire in self defence when they came under heavy stone pelting in which five soldiers were injured.

Officials said that District Magistrate (DM), Kupwara Khalid Jehangir has ordered magisterial probe into the killing of Khalid Gaffar Malik in Army firing last evening at Trehgam. Police has also registered a case in this connection in police station Trehgam, they said.

The DM has appointed Additional District Commissioner (ADM), Handwara Muzaffar Hussain as the inquiry officer and asked to complete the probe within a month.
