J&K Guv reviews developmental works in Leh, calls for expediting completion of ongoing projects

Srinagar, Jul 11: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra reviewed the progress of developmental works in the border district of Leh in Ladakh region and emphasised the urgent need for expeditious completion of ongoing Central Sector Schemes, particularly those which had been ongoing for more than three years.

A Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Raj Bhavan said that the Governor on Tuesday visited Leh and reviewed the progress of development works in the district.

“Mr Vohra was accompanied by his three Advisors, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary Planning, Development and Monitoring Department,” he said.

After arriving at Leh, the Governor held a meeting with Thupstan Chhewang, MP; Chering Dorjay, MLC and former Minister; Nawang Rigzin Zora, MLA, and former Minister and representatives of political parties. “The Legislators raised a number of issues and sought increased capital allocations for Leh district and, besides, accelerated completion of all long pending works,” he said.


After meeting the Legislators, he said the Governor held extensive discussions with the Executive Councillors of LAHDC, all of whom raised demands for larger allocations and urgent completion of long pending works.

Thereafter, the Governor chaired a meeting of District Officers of Leh District where the entire range of developmental issues of the district were discussed in detail.

He said Ms Avni Lavasa, District Development Commissioner, made a detailed presentation in which she highlighted the state of development works in the district, progress of ongoing schemes, impediments in the completion of works and other major issues pertaining to the district.

Reviewing the progress of the roads and bridges sector, the Governor emphasised the urgent need for expeditious completion of ongoing Central Sector Schemes, particularly those which had been ongoing for more than three years. He urged the engineers to not only ensure timely completion of Projects but also take due cognizance of the quality of the works being executed.

The Governor directed Principal Secretary Planning, Development and Monitoring Department to ensure that funds for transfer of utilities should be made available to the district on most urgent basis, before 25 July, 2018.

In regard to the Education sector, Governor directed Chief Education Officer (CEO) Leh to ensure the annual health check, immunization and vaccination of all school children and also ensure provision of power, drinking water, toilets and boundary walls in all schools.

He directed the District Administration and the sectoral officers to concentrate on the high potential in the district to grow vegetables, flowers, fruits and milk and directed Deputy Commissioner to ensure that milk and vegetable produce of the district found a ready market among the various security establishments in Leh.

The Deputy Commissioner made a number of demands regarding requirement of funds for ongoing projects in the districts.

Meanwhile, the Governor issued on the spot orders for release of Rs 100.09 lakh for a few road sector projects and directed Secretary Planning Development and Monitoring Department to examine all the pending liabilities of BADP and TSP in the district and put up to him by July 21, 2018 the amount required to be allocated for clearing the work done liability. He directed District Development Commissioner to prioritize her entire list of demands, based on the felt needs of the district, and submit a comprehensive proposal, along-with the fund requirements, by July 25, 2018
