New Delhi, July 9: The Supreme Court on Monday refused a plea for allowing "outsiders" to perform Namaz at the historic Taj Mahal.

A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and also comprising Justice Ashok M Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, refused the plea to allow outsiders to perform Namaz there and seeking a direction to the district authorities in this regard.

The top court said, the historic Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world and it must be preserved.

The petitioner moved the apex court after district magistrate on January 24 had barred outsiders from performing Namaz at Taj.

The Supreme Court said there is no need to perform prayer at Taj and it can be done at other place.
