Militant killed in Kupwara woods
Srinagar, July 9: A militant was killed in the ongoing encounter since Sunday evening in Handwara woods in the north Kashmir district of Kupwara, a police spokesman said on Monday.
He said troops of Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at the woods in Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara Sunday evening. However, when the troops were moving deep into dense forest, militants opened fire with automatic weapons, the spokesman said, adding fire was returned ensuing in an encounter.
He said so far one militant was killed and operation was going on when the reports last came in.
