Mother, daughter beaten up; video goes viral; accused arrested

Rajouri: The police came into action after a video of a woman and her young daughter being beaten up mercilessly by a youth with lathi and kicks went viral in Rajouri area today.

While police claimed that it had registered an FIR on the same day when the incident took place on June 13, 2018 but the victims and their relatives alleged that Police Post Rajouri city staff did not take any action and even their medical was not conducted at local hospital so far. They failed to arrest accused persons and take action even after five days.

Today, the video of mercilessly beating up of 45-year- old Sakina Begum and his 19-year old daughter, Abida Kouser of Tandwal by a Sikh youth went viral. When the people saw this video, they got agitated. Some people held protest against police at Abdullah bridge and also at Gujjar Mandi Chowk. They raised slogans against police demanding arrest of the accused. The police officials, however, went there and told people that accused was absconding and police parties were conducting raids to nab him.

SSP Rajouri, Yougal Manhas when contacted said that an FIR No. 307, U/S 354, 323,325 and 452 RPC has been registered against one Pummy, son of Diwakar Singh and two others, hailing from Punjab and presently residing at village Tandwal. He said the FIR was lodged on the same day after woman’s son Saddam Hussain lodged complaint.

He said it was learned that earlier, these two, mother and daughter had some quarrel with Pummy’s wife on some bathroom issue. They allegedly beaten up Pummy’s wife. On the instigation by wife, Pummy beaten up both. He, however, said that police was on the job. It would arrest the accused soon. The accused has switched off his mobile phone and is absconding.
