Srinagar, June 22: The historic Jamia Masjid in the downtown Srinagar reopened after remaining closed to prevent any protests on Thursday when separatists had called for a general strike in protest against the murder of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari and death of civilians in security force action.

All gates of Masjid, stronghold of chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, which were locked yesterday when nobody was allowed to enter the worship place, are open today.

Security forces and police personnel deployed yesterday have also been withdrawn. The Jamia market was also open.
