Encounter ensues b/w SF and militants in south Kashmir

Srinagar, June 22: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Friday morning, official sources said.

A woman has been injured in the encounter so far, they said.

The sources said on a tip off about the presence of militants, Army, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Khiram in Anantnag early this morning.

However, when the area was being sealed, the militants hiding there opened fire, they said, adding that security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.

Additional security forces have been rushed to the area to prevent any demonstration outside the CASO area.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended in Anantnag district to prevent spread of rumours.
