Toll rises to 3 in Jhajjar flash flood

JAMMU: In a tragic incident which took place at Jhajjar Nullah on Monday, the death toll has swelled to three as the rescue workers fished out the body of the missing girl on Tuesday while the three others have been hospitalized. "Three children were drowned on Monday," police sources said adding, "rescue team recovered two bodies while the body of third girl who also went missing on Monday was fished out from downstream of Jhajjar Nullah which witnessed heavy rains in upper reaches on yesterday resulting six children trapped," Police said.

The deceased have been identified as Nanita Devi (4)daughter of Brige Mohan of Chhurta,Niharika Devi (8) daughter of Ravi Kumar of Kattal Battal,Nagrota and Chandan Jyoti (13) daughter of Brij Mohan of Chhurta.

Sources said, "Six children were trapped in Jhajjar Nullaha in Chhurta village of tehsil Dansal on June 18, after it water level swelled due flash flood."

"Out of six children, three drowned, soon after the tragic incident the rescue team from police and locals started rescue operation and fished out two bodies while shifted the survivors to nearby Primary Health Centre Dansal from where they were referred to the Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for further treatment," said a senior police officer.

Three other who have been hospitalized including Bandana Devi 913) daughter of Baldev Raj of Chhurta,Radhika Devi (4) daughter of Ravi Kumar of Chhurta and Bharti Bhagat (9) daughter of Brij Mohan of Chhurta.
