Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with religious fervor in J&K

Srinagar, Jun 16: The Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the culmination the holy fasting month of Ramzan, was on Saturday celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety in Jammu and Kashmir, where authorities released 151 detenues on the occasion.

However, the Shia sect of Muslims celebrated Eid festival in Ladakh region, including Kargil, and parts of Kashmir valley on Friday.

Lakhs of people, including women and children, thronged Eidgah, Jamia Masjids, Mosque and other shrine and open field to offer Eid prayers in the valley.

The main congregations were held at Asar-e-Sharief Hazratbal, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad on the bank of famed Dal Lake. Thousands of devotees, including women and children, joined the special thanks giving prayers. The authorities had made all arrangements, including transport, medical, water and power for the devotees, who had come from different parts of the valley.

A congregation was also organised at Eidgah in the downtown, where chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq joined thousands of to offer Eid prayers. The Mirwaiz addressed the congregation and said he was allowed to offer Eid prayers at Eidgh after eight years.

Similar Eid prayers were also held at the shrine of Mehboob-ul-Aalam, Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qader Jeelani at Khanyar and Saraibala, Hazrat Shah-e-Hamdan, Hazrat Sheikh Nooruddin Wali at Charar-e-Sharief, Hazrat Sheikh Dawood Batmaloo, Hazrat Syed Mansoor Sonawar and other Jamia masjids, Eidgahs and other religious places.

Reports of celebrations were also received from all district and tehsil headquarters in the Kashmir valley.

Meanwhile, children in colourful dresses were seen visiting parks and other gardens in Srinagar, where vendors have put of stalls selling toys and other articles.

Besides, the Sunni sect of Muslims also celebrated Eid in Ladakh region, including Leh, Kargil and Drass, the coldest place in the world after Siberia. However, Shia sect of Muslims celebrated Eid yesterday.
