Srinagar, June 15: Five people, including two policemen and three civilians were injured, when militants fired at a police checkpoint in this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources told UNI that unidentified militants fired at a police checkpoint near Dental College at Kaka Sarai in Srinagar on Friday afternoon.

''Two policemen and three civilians were injured in the attack,'' they said, adding the wounded were immediately taken to the nearby SHMS hospital.

They said the militants managed to escape from the stop, adding that security forces have been rushed and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.

The attack on the checkpoint comes just a day after senior journalist and Rising Kashmir Editor-in-Chief Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside his office at Press Enclave in the heart of the city on Thursday evening. Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) were also killed in the incident.
