SRINAGAR: Security forces averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Tuesday, official sources said.
They said a security force patrol party detected an IED planted by terrorists in the link road amidst construction stones at Kanjinag, Awantipora, in Pulwama this morning
.
However, the road was closed and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) summoned, they said adding the IED was defused without causing any damage.
"It was a low-intensity IED weighing about 2.5 kgs," an officer said.
The officer said that the IED detected has been locally made and it has been established that urea has been used in making the explosive device.
Had it not been detected and defused it would have caused major damage to life and property as the road remained busy during the day.
