SRINAGAR: A mob on Tuesday set on fire the house of a civilian, besides two shops belonging to him in restive Shopian district for allegedly working as an informer for the Army, police sources said.

Reports said that the group of people on Tuesday afternoon set ablaze two shops and later also house of Kifayat Ahmad Mir son of Bashir Ahmad Mir at Mulu, Chitrgam.

"Timely intervention by fire fighting personnel helped douse the flames although the house and some adjacent shops were partially damaged," the source said.

The civilian, Kifayat Mir, had earlier been caught and stripped by terrorists who claimed to have recorded his confessional video, residents said.

Mir's "confessional video" of "informing army" about militants went viral on social media in April this year.
On April 15, this year, two militants and four civilians were killed in a shootout at Pohnoo Shopian after the army claimed to have laid an ambush following inputs about the movement of militants.

After his confession, he was later shot at in his foot by terrorists and was injured.
