Mumbai, May 31: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor who will be seen as Sanjay Dutt in biopic ‘Sanju’, says "we all can learn from Sanju’s mistakes".

Addressing the mediapersons during the trailer launch of ‘Sanju’ in Mumbai late on Wednesday, Ranbir said, "Sanjay Dutt is a courageous man who has given his life out there to be made into a movie.”

“We all can learn from Sanju's mistakes. That's why he has given this gracefully - given away all the stories. To tell these are the mistakes I have made. I can understand from his mistakes and learn from them,” he said.

“In my life I want Sanju sir to like me. I can't be the man that he is and I can never be the person that he is. But I want him to like me. I respect him a lot and look up to him. I hope he feels I have represented his life honestly and truly,” he said.

Talking about Sunil Dutt and Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir said,”Sanju was doing drugs in those days. He lost perspective of life after the premiere of ‘Rocky’.”

“He went to his father and said, 'I'm gone. If you don't save me, I won't survive.' Sunil sir realised that he had gone so deep into drugs that he needs help. He took him to America, to a rehab. It was an important phase in Sanju sir's life. He would have died or survived, but he is a fighter, so he survived,” Ranbir said.

Ranbir was all praise for Sanjay Dutt as he couldn't stop talking about him.

He said, "When I was 10 years old I had a poster of Sanjay Dutt in my room and now I m representing him on screen. I really want Sanju sir to like me. He is a man whom I like, look up to and I really hope that he feels that I have represented his life in a very honest way."

Telling about the challenges he faced during the portrayal of the role, Ranbir said, “The most challenging part for me was playing Sanjay Dutt’s teenage when his mother passed away. For me, my mother is my biggest fan and she even liked 'Bombay Velvet' and therefore being an actor, it’s our job to portray every emotion perfectly on the screen.”

Ranbir further opened up more about the character saying, "The role of Sanju was not at all chocolaty, it was macho and had a lot of liquor and whiskey but it was a great challenge."

“Unlike Sanju sir, I won't allow my biopic to be made and my girlfriend count is also less than ten,” he added.

Presenting the equation of Sanjay Dutt with the various members in his life, the trailer gives detailed descriptions of Paresh Rawal, Sonam Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala and Anushka Sharma.

The biopic depicts the various stages of Sanjay Dutt's life, the teaser of which has already piqued the interests of the audience.

'Sanju' showcases the highs and lows of Sanjay Dutt's life-giving an insight into the unbelievable true story of the actor.

While the teaser earned Ranbir Kapoor praises for his amazing transformation into each phase of Sanjay Dutt's life, the trailer further resents the actor's commendable acting skills as he perfectly fits into Sanjay Dutt's shoes.

Written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film will also star an ensemble cast in addition to Ranbir Kapoor which includes Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor and Dia Mirza amongst others.

Produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films in association with Fox Star Studios.
