JAMMU: Asserting that it is almost war like situation at 198 kms long Indo-Pak International Border, Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), Ram Awatar today said that it is one of the worst situation since the ceasefire agreement signed between both the neighbouring countries in November 2003.

Talking to the News Now, the IG BSF, who is heading the BSF troops at Jammu Frontier countering heavy firing and shelling by the Pakistani Rangers said that the situation at IB is too worse as far as targeting of civilian areas is concern, but as far as BSF is concerned, “We are ready with our plan and we are ready to face any situation and giving befitting reply to each and every bullet or shell fired by the enemy.”

Disclosing that Pakistani Regulars (army) is supporting Pak Rangers at many places on forward areas for targeting BSF posts as well as civilian areas, BSF IG also said that thousands of shells have been dropped in Indian Territory by Pakistan in last a week. Sources in BSF also added that over 10,000 shells were fired on border villages in these days, which is maximum number in last one decade.

However, Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire for thousands of times in last less than 15 years, but it is very rare that entire 198 kms border from Kathua to Akhnoor is under firing and such huge civilian casualty or injuries were witnessed in Jammu region.

“Pakistani regulars are not only supporting but openly firing and targeting Indian villagers along with Rangers. Even we are having identity of units of Pak Army involved in this border firing and details about the areas where Pak regulars are active, but BSF is replying them with full force,” added IG Ram Awatar, who is continuously motivating his troops and visiting many firing effected forward posts and areas.

When asked, whether Rangers are using heavy artillery fire, BSF IG replied that till now, they are firing 82 MM mortar, normally used by Rangers.

Asking about any particular reason behind such a massive cross-border firing and war-like situation, IG BSF Jammu said that it has began with the infiltration bid and has continued since then.

“It is not like this that, we are not having our own Intelligence Inputs regarding Pak’s strategy that where they are going to target more, but we have already detailed even today morning to the police and administration and already circulated a warning in few villages in Samba and Kathua that Pak is going to target such and such villages and warned people to stay inside and move to safer places before 9 am,” revealed IG BSF and added, “Same had happened and the enemy targeted the villages and we have lost few civilians.”

“BSF is ready with own plans to counter them, but to take care of civilian lives, we have to plan accordingly as Pak is always looking for soft targets,” said IG Ram Awatar.

About the present situation at IB in Jammu region, the BSF Jammu chief said that there was calm at entire stretch since noon, but nothing can be say about the night as BSF is on high-alert and ready to counter them.
