Jammu, May 20: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaid on Sunday said that ceasing of counter-terrorism operations announced in the month of Ramzan will also have positive effect on forces sponsoring terrorism.

"I hope this initiative (ceasefire) of Government of India will have positive effect on everyone, including the forces sponsoring terrorism," Dr Vaid told reporters here at the sidelines of a function.

He said, "I am sure that Amarnath Yatra will pass off peacefully."

This year, the annual Amarnath Yatra is starting from June 28.

"This initiative is taken in the holy month of Ramadan and yatra is as auspicious as Ramadan. I am sure it will pass off peacefully," said the police chief.

"If Ramadan is a holy month for everyone in India, then it should also be observed by Pakistan," he asserted.

The police chief on rifle snatching incidents in Kashmir valley, said "The most important is what the Prime Minister said on Saturday that let youth join the mainstream and develop strong Jammu and Kashmir and strong India."
