Train service resumes in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 20: Train service resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, after a daylong strike by separatists.
The separatists had called for 'Lal Chowk challo' on Saturday to protest Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state to inaugurate several developmental projects.
All train runs were resumed this morning in the valley, a railway official told TNN.
He said trains will chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla track in north Kashmir as per schedule. Similarly, all trains will run on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
Separatist organisations, comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, had called for the strike.
'We suspended train service in the valley following a fresh directive from police yesterday. However, last night, a fresh advisory was received to resume all train runs,' he said.
The official said Railway department is acting on the directive of police.
