PM Modi arrives in Srinagar from Leh

Srinagar, May 19 : Prime Minister Narendera Modi arrived in summer capital, Srinagar on Saturday afternoon to lay the foundation stone of Srinagar Ring Road and inaugurate Kishan Ganga power project.

Mr Modi arrived from Leh where he laid the foundation of construction of Zojila tunnel on Srinagar-Leh national highway. The function will be held at S K International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the bank of Dal Lake. All roads leading to venue have been closed for any civilian movement since Friday.

He will lay the foundation stone for Srinagar Ring Road before leaving for winter capital, Jammu later in the day.

The 42.1 Km, 4 lane Srinagar Ring Road will link Galandar in West Srinagar to Sumbal. Being built at a cost of Rs 1860 crore, this road will provide a new route from Srinagar to Kargil and Leh, and reduce travel time. There will be a major bridge, three flyovers, 23 tunnels and 2 via-ducts on this route.
