Srinagar, May 19: Train service was suspended as a precautionary measure in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for 'Lal Chowk challo' on Saturday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving to inaugurate several developmental projects.

'We have suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley today following a fresh advisory received from police,' a railway official told TNN.

He said trains will not chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla track in north Kashmir. Similarly, all train runs on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region have been suspended.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, called for 'Lal Chowk challo' against PM’s visit to Kashmir.

The official said Railway department is acting on the directive of police.

This was the ninth time train service was suspended in the Kashmir valley during the month of May. Last month, train service remained suspended partially or fully for eight times.
