SFs burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 19: Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators who were pelting stones on Saturday morning in downtown Srinagar.

Immediately after the “Fajr”(Morning) prayers were over in mosques, people hit the streets at Safa Kadal raising slogans. However, security forces and police personnel deployed in the area since wee hours today swung into action and resorted to lathicharge to disperse them which had no impact as demonstrators were regrouping and pelting stones.

Additional security forces were immediately rushed to the area, official sources said, adding that later, security force burst teargas shells to restore peace in the area.

Security forces have now closed all roads with barbed wire and directed people to remain indoors.
