World Museum Day celebrated at Udhampur

UDHAMPUR: The District Administration, Udhampur in collaboration with Department of Achieves, Archaeology, INTACH (Jammu Chapter), and other line departments and stakeholders organized an impressive function hereat Bhartiya College of Education to mark the International Museum Day.
District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar was the guest on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Convener Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, (INTACH) S.M Sahni, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Krishan Lal, Joint Director Handicraft Jammu, Anju Gupta, Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria, Chairman Bhartiya College of Education, Udhampur, Madhu Khajuria, Co-Convener INTACH, Dr. CM Seth, Director Bhartiya College of Education, Shiv Kumar, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. K.C Dogra, Chief Horticulture Officer, Brij Vallabh Gupta, Principal of the host College, Anita Bali , Director Amar Santosh Museum, Anil Paba, district Officers, staff members and students of the college.
The DDC said that the main objective of organizing this programme was to raise the awareness among the common masses as well as young generation about their history and its legacy. “International Museum Day is a movement as well as a platform to make the people aware about their rich past and inculcate in them a sense to preserve it for posterity” he added.
Earlier, the programme started with lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest. Principal of the host college presented welcome address.
The event also witnessed an exhibition by Handicraft department and other stakeholders, where at artifacts including Stone tools, Fossils, Utensils Copper and Bronze, Rare Books, Documents, Weapons, Numismatic Mouryan to Mughal period, Ancient Instruments, Sculptures Iconograph, Jewelry Kashmiri Gojri and Tribal, Ancient Indian and other countries Coins, Manuscripts, etc were showcased with detailed information and history of the objects at the exhibition.
The speakers strongly pitched for the preservation of state’s heritage sites and monuments and sought immediate attention of the government towards this issue. Other attractions were expert lectures, presentations and display of artifacts.
Joint Director Handicraft also spoke at the event and explained the importance of museums as sources of education.
Later, the chief guest gave away certificates among the students who participated in the cultural programme.
