Chennai, May 18: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) policeman nabbed a chain snatcher-cum-mobile phone stealer despite sustaining severe head injuries at the Central Railway station on Friday morning.
Police said acting on a complaint of mobile phones being stolen and some people were snatching chains, the RPF cop, Yogesh Kumar, spotted a group of youths, who were found to be moving in a suspicious manner.
On seeing the cop, they took to their heels. But Yogesh Kumar gave a hot chase and managed to nab one of them.
However, he wielded a sickle and attacked the cop, who suffered cut injuries on head.
Unmindful of the injury and with blood oozing out, Yogesh put up a brave face and nabbed the attacker.
Police seized a couple of mobile phones from the person, who was identified as Vijay.
He was later handed over to the Periamet police station, even as police launched a man hunt to nab his accomplices.
The RPF cop was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
