Srinagar, May 17: A day after the Centre announced unilateral ceasefire during the month of Ramazan in Kashmir valley, Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid said the families of local militants should urge their sons to leave path of violence and live peacefully.

“Taking advantage of fresh initiative of GOI during Ramadan, families of local militants should urge their sons to leave path of violence & join them to live peacefully. Wish them good luck,” Dr Vaid wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

The ceasefire announcement by the Centre comes over a week after an All-Party Meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti appealed to New Delhi to announce unilateral ceasefire during the holy month.

However, PDP’s coalition partner BJP in the state and the Centre had opposed any ceasefire alleging that it would provide a breathing time to militants to regroup after successful “Operation All Out”.
