Kifayat Rizvi reviews working of Labour Department

SRINAGAR: Commissioner Secretary, Labour and Employment, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi today reviewed the progress on implementation of various Labour Acts by the department and the benefits disbursed to workers and labourers in a meeting here today.
Labour Commissioner, Bashir Ahmad Khan, who is also the Chief Executive Officer J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB) gave detailed resumes about the progress and other activities of Labour Department and the Board.
During the meeting the Commissioner took a detailed district wise account of labour laws viz. Employee’s Compensation act, Payment of Wages Act, Minimum Wages Act, Motor Transport Workers Act, Inter State Migrant Workmen Act, Building and other Construction Workers Act, Shops & Establishment Act and Child Labour Act.
Commissioner Secretary instructed the officers of the Labour and Employment to work with dedication and come up to the expectations of the labour class so that they may not face inconvenience.
Kifayat Rizvi also directed the field officers to conduct awareness camps in their respective districts so that people may know about the schemes and programmes and will avail optimum benefits out of the schemes launched by the central and state governments for welfare of the labour class.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Secretary directed the concerned officers to accelerate the disposal of cases under various acts to ensure benefits of welfare measures reach to the workers. He further asked the Assistant Labour Commissioners to update their records. He also directed the concerned to create awareness about Labour laws and benefits presumed thereof among the labour force present in the state.
Besides, the working of the district and divisional officers was reviewed and the Assistant Labour Commissioners were directed to conduct frequent inspections under J&K Shops & Establishment Act and Building & Other Construction Workers Act and Child Labour Act so that the implementation of these Acts are ensured in the right prospect for the benefits of the people.
It was disclosed in the meeting that as many as 333552 workers are registered with the Labour and Employment Department out of which 141306 are active workers at present.
Labour Commissioner, Bashir Ahmad Khan given out in the meeting that the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has recovered an amount of Rs 600 crore as Cess out of which an amount of Rs 296 crore have been utilized for the welfare of the workers since 2008.
It was given out in the meeting that the Provident Fund Organization has a Corps Fund of Rs 3500 crore at this time on account of Employees Provident Fund. The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs 224.11 crore have been paid to the workers in 2017-18 while as many as 24202 cases have been finalized in the State.
The meeting was informed that there are 16344 units of different establishments registered with the Provident Fund Organization out of which 1048 Units have been registered during 2017-18.
Additional Provident Fund Commissioner, Kashmir, Deputy Provident Fund Commissioner (Central), Deputy Labour Commissioners, Assistant Labour Commissioners and Assistant Provident Fund Commissioners of all the district of Kashmir Division were present in the meeting.
