Missing lawyer arrested in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 16: A lawyer who is reported missing was arrested in north Kashmir district of Baramulla under the order from a magistrate, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.
Reacting to High Court Bar Association (HBA) statement published in newspapers that a lawyer in north Kashmir was missing, spokesman said the lawyer has been detained in Sub-Jail, Baramulla under orders from a competent magistrate.
He said quoting Inspector General of Police (IGP) in the news about the lawyer was incorrect.
He said it would have been appreciated had the facts with police been taken on record involving the lawyer before publishing the news item.
The lawyer in question was called to Police Station Kreeri in Baramulla and was bound down by magistrate.
Police has sufficient ground for his detention keeping records and materials available with us.The family stands accordingly informed, spokesman said.
However, the spokesman did not divulge the charges against the lawyer under which he was detained. Official sources said that he was arrested for his alleged links with militants.
He said it is further requested to media that before circulation of any such news item where public institutions and senior police officer was mentioned , the facts in hand must be verified. We request the editors to take appropriate measures in this connection, he added.
The HBA had alleged that after the arrest of lawyer Shabir Ahmad Bukhari on May 12, he was missing.
