Srinagar, Apr 23: The Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) left here on Monday to cross over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC).

The bus left with 23 passengers from Srinagar to cross over to other side in Uri sector this morning, official sources told TNN. The passengers included nine residents of Kashmir who are travelling to PoK to meet their relatives separated during the partition in 1947, they said, adding that 4 are returnees.

The weekly bus has reached Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) at Salamabad, Uri where more passengers will board it before leaving for Kaman post, the Indian military post on this side of the LoC.

The exact number of passengers will be known only in the afternoon, while people travelling from PoK will be known in the evening.

The bus, introduced on April 7,2005 has helped thousands of divided families to meet each other despite opposition by militant groups. However, only state subjects from both sides are eligible to undertake the journey on travel permits instead of International passports, provided their names are cleared by intelligence agencies from both sides.
