Voices getting louder for saving Jammu from divisive politics

JAMMU: As social media trends with concoctions, uninformed narratives and counter narratives, the civil society voices are becoming louder for saving Jammu from divisive politics.

Even as candle light vigils are held across the region and rallies are being taken in solidarity with the victim of Rasana rape and murder, people are also expressing serious concern over divisive politics and communally surcharged debates on the social media.

A day after an all-faith public solidarity show, representatives from over twenty community and social organisations today gathered at the invitation of Gurjardesh Charitable Trust to unleash a joint offensive against all sorts attempts aimed at dividing the people in name of religion and community.

Members from all communities, groups and associations vociferously underlined that no space shall be conceded for communal politics. Speakers said that the crime on Asifa had made the humanity to cry but the divisive narrative in its aftermath has left everyone worrying.

Around 150 people from around 20 different organizations in around three hours long marathon discussion initiated, by the Trust patron Masud Chaudhary and chairman Hameed Choudhary, said that there is a need of maintaining communal harmony for which Jammu is well known.

Former vice-chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Masood Choudhary and many other speakers put forward their views situation arising out of the gruesome crime in Rasana. Two minutes silence was also observed by the participants and prayed to the almighty for the noble soul of the little girl.

Lauding Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s initiative, Choudhary, said, “Our CM has taken a principal stand against her own ministers, questioning their presence in the pro-rapist rally.”

“With her initiative, now the minorities in Kathua and Samba are feeling secure that the government is with them,” said Choudhary. Former VC-BGSBU said that once former PM Vajpayee once said that they had to follow ‘Raj Dharma’ means justice to all and CM Mehbooba has done the same.

Chairman of the Trust Hameed Choudhary, Mohammad Aslam Qureshi, president Civil Society, Prof Lalit Magotra, president Dogri Sanstha, Khalid Hussain, member Civil Society, Avtar Singh Khalsa, General Secretary DGPC, Prof Lali Dass, Advocate Shah Mohammad Choudhary, Indian backward Classes, Amarjit Singh, Awami Itihad Party, Manohar Lal, Sanyara Sabha, Tarsem Khullar, Ambedkar Sena, Mohinder Bhagat, Bhagat Sabha were among the prominent present in the meeting.
