Karvan-e-Aman bus leave to cross over to PoK

Srinagar, Apr 16: The weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) left here on Monday to cross over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector, official sources said.
The bus, ferrying nine passengers, including seven Kashmiri residents and two returnees of POK left Bemina, Srinagar, on Monday morning for Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the LoC, sources told TNN.

They said the bus has since reached Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) at Uri, where more passengers will board it before cross over to other side. The exact number of passengers to cross over to POK would be known in the afternoon, they said.

Similarly the number of passengers arriving from POK will be known in the evening, they said.

The bus, introduced on April 7, 2005 despite opposition by militants, has helped thousands of families divided due to partition in 1947, to meet each other. However, only state subjects from both sides of the LoC are eligible to travel in the bus, provided their names of cleared by intelligence agencies from both the countries. This was one of the major Confidence Building Measure (CBM) taken by the India and Pakistan to allow travel of divided families.
