Distribution of forms for Ruposhree scheme begins
Kolkata, Mar 30 : The distribution of forms for West Bengal Government’s dream 'Ruposhree' Scheme, which came into effect after immense success in the 'Kanyashree' scheme, started on March 28.
Under the scheme, families whose annual income is Rs 1.5 lakh or less would receive financial assistance of Rs 25,000 from the State Government for the wedding of their daughters.
Close to six lakh poor families will benefit from the scheme.
This is an idea conceived by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and was announced by the Finance Minister, Dr Amit Mitra, during the presentation of the State Budget.
The Trinamool Congress Government started the 'Kanyashree' Scheme in Bengal, another brainchild of Ms Banerjee, in 2011 to enable girls to complete their education.
This was later extended to the university level.
The scheme has been a huge success and has been awarded by as high an international organisation as the United Nations.
Now, the Government has decided to help facilitate the marriage of poor girls too. Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for the project.
