We The Women is going to bring for you in brief about these finalists in following editions. In no special order, this week let’s know a little more about Deepshikha Sharma.

---------------------------------------------------------
Coming from a Kashmiri Pandit family, Deepshikha Sharma describes herself an explorer by nature. She is a software Engineer by the day and a Fashion blogger (vogueecstasy.wordpress.com) by the evening. She has done her schooling from APS Ratnuchak and believes that being brought up in an army atmosphere has inculcated in her a spirit to never give up; one thing that she would carry with her forever.
In a candid chat, Deepshikha opened up with Akriti Jamwal, giving insight about her intriguing persona. Here are some excerpts from the conversation:

● When did the idea to participate in ‘Femina Miss India’ become concrete?
When I first started blogging, the overwhelming response that I got from people all over the globe was
in itself an amusement and a blessing to me. It was then that I started aspiring for Miss India which
would give me a platform to reach larger mass and help me do my bit to the society, making world a
better place.

● What are the instances that led you to it? Describe your journey; all the hardships as well as
turning points.
Like it is said, “Himmat-e-marda, madad-e- khuda”. Managing office with gym twice a day, learning ramp walk, campaigns, shoots, volunteer work and then preparing oneself mentally to believe in yourself, it has not been a cake walk.
I won’t lie; I bought my first pair of heels only to audition for Miss India. But working for this has been the most amazing experience I have ever had and I have enjoyed and celebrated every bit of it. There were people who have been doubting my ambitions nature but that just always pushed me to work harder and today I have their support and blessings too.

● What exactly has changed after becoming one of the finalists for ‘Miss Jammu and Kashmir’?
I have worked really hard to stand where I am today and I believe that hard work always pays off but yet when I first stood on that runway, I was scared and shivering. Today I am more optimistic and confident. I’m not scared anymore. I know that throughout my journey in Miss India, the one thing that would be the most certain is uncertainty. But this idea does not scare me anymore. It rather fascinates me. I am thrilled for what is coming my way next.

● Looking back at your life how did it shaped up your personality?
A keen interest in fashion with a knack for writing is what introduced me to the world of blogging. Having a purpose in mind and the spirit to work hard for it brought me to Miss India. This has been my aspiration and this is what shaped my personality.

● Some might think that may be you were born like this, with all the beauty and the jazz. Would
you shed some light on your routine as well as efforts it takes?
Oh not at all, I was definitely not born like this and I have so much more to learn and so much more to
do. I was born a hippo and I was still a hippo until 2 months ago and I worked out day and night to lose
12 kilos(grams) in 2 months for the auditions. It has been a crazy ride. But what I have realized is that eating healthy is very very important regardless of your workout routine. Eat healthy, include lots of pulpy fruits and fibrous salads in your diet and drink lots of water. That’s the Mantra.

● What is beauty for you? What basic qualities as per you, are required to be crowned in a Beauty
Pageant?
Beauty to me is happiness. It’s the images and moments that inspires and represents the attractiveness of our souls. It’s the moments we feel free and real. It’s the moments we feel proud and eminent. It’s the moments we feel alive. A person who just be herself, trusts and loves her identity and personality and carries it with eminent grace and confidence would definitely win hearts- not just in a beauty pageant but everywhere.

● What according to you have been your major achievements so far, both personal and public?
Having a say in my family and the society where my words are valued and respected has been my biggest achievement in life.

● What is your ideology behind your professional and personal life? What is that one thing that
keeps you moving on; that makes you do what you are doing?
That one value that I would always stick onto my entire life is to “Be myself, no exceptions whatsoever “,
waking up every morning with a goal in mind, hunger to learn and working for it one day at a time.

● Where should we expect you few years from now; modeling, acting or something else?
Few years from now I see myself as the UNICEF representative in India.

● Most of the teenagers whether boys or girls, have identity issues and many of them are conscious about their looks. I believe, subtly it stays the same throughout the life. What would you like to tell them?
A flower never worries about competing with other flowers. It just blooms. Don’t lose yourself in this rat-race of mind and power. Respect your identity. Be hungry and work hard every day to grow into a better person.

● Any piece of advice for the aspirants?
If you want to achieve something in life, no matter how farfetched it might seem, but if you’re ready to
work hard for it, then sky is the limit for you.

● What would you like to convey to people of Jammu & Kashmir?
We are a beautiful state with abundant talent and potential. Believe in the dreams and ambitions of your children and watch them do wonders.

● What according to you, is an empowered woman? Your take on Feminism?
A woman of power, a woman of positive influence and a woman of meaning who embraces her individuality, finds her dreams with a spirit to work for it and uses her voice for the betterment of the nation and making world a better place is how I define an empowered woman.
Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.

● Where do you see women of Jammu & Kashmir, few years from now? Any message for women out there?
We are the most eminent and untapped resource in this world whose potential is yet to be discovered.
Respect your identity and believe in your dreams. Prove to this world that ‘We The Women’ are fearless in the pursuit of what sets our soul on fire. We believe in our potential, it is time
