J&K Police pays floral tribute to policeman killed in Kupwara encounter

Srinagar, Mar 22 : The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday paid floral tributes to a Selection Grande Constable (SgCT), who was killed in an encounter with the militants in the woods of frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, on Wednesday.

A Police Spokesperson here this evening said that a wreath-laying ceremony was held in District Police Line (DPL) Srinagar, where floral tributes were paid to martyr SgCT Deepak Thusoo, who gave supreme sacrifice of his life, while fighting with militants during an encounter at Halmatpora forests in Kupwara.

Five militants were killed and as many security force personnel, including Thusoo, were martyred in the encounter, which ensued on Tuesday in Halmatpora forests.

''Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir S P Pani led the Police and Security forces officers in laying the floral tributes on the mortal remains of the Martyr,'' he said.

''IG CRPF Zulfkar Hassan, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Central Kashmir Ranger (CKR) V K Birdi, DIG SSB R K Bhumal, DIG CRPF and other officers of Police and Security forces, apart from Jawans, were present and paid tributes,'' the Spokesperson added.

He said Thusoo is survived by wife, a 12-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter.
