Kupwara: Four terrorists killed

SRINAGAR: In a major success, the security forces on Tuesday killed four terrorists in a fierce gunfight Kupwara district in Kashmir. Bodies of three terrorists were recovered from the encounter site even as the operation was still in progress, at the time of filing this report.

The gunfight broke between security forces and terrorists at Check Fatehkhan, Halmatpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday afternoon.

“A joint team of army’s 41 RR and SOG had launched a cordon-and-search operation following inputs about the movement of seven foreign terrorists,” a police officer said.

As the joint team of forces intensified the searches, the terrorists hiding in the area opened fire, triggering off an encounter.

“Before surrender offer could have been made, two terrorists opened fire triggering off a gunfight. Later, they dispersed and joined with two terrorists in the gunfight,” Army said.

In the gunfight that ensued at Halmatpora, four terrorists have been killed so far, Army spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia said.

“Bodies of three terrorists were recovered from the encounter site. Operation is in progress and so far only three terrorists’ bodies have been recovered,” he said.

Meanwhile, reinforcement of Para Commandos was rushed to the area and they joined the operation. The joint team of forces has also installed searchlights in the area.

Police officials said the government forces have not suffered any causality or damage in the attack.
