Life remains affected in parts of South Kashmir’s Pulwama

Srinagar, Mar 18 : Life remained affected for the third day on Sunday in parts of south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where three militants were killed by security forces in an encounter in the wee hours of Friday.

Bodies of two local militants were recovered on Friday, while the body of third, a foreigner, was recovered yesterday from under the debris of two houses damaged in the encounter.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the road in Tral and Awantipora and their adjoining areas for the third day. The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) also postponed all examinations which were scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Life also remained affected at Balhama, where people clashed with the security forces after body of third militant was recovered yesterday.

However, situation in Pampore was normal with shops and business establishments open.

The authorities have deployed additional security forces at Tral, Awantipora and Pampore, including on national highway, to prevent any untoward incident.

Two miltants Rasiq Nabi Bhat, a resident of Tral and Shabir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Awantipora, were killed in an encounter by security forces at Balhama Khonmoh in the wee hours on Friday. A CRPF jawan was also injured in the shootout.
