Life remains affected in parts of South Kashmir’s Pulwama

Srinagar, Mar 17 : Life remained affected for the second day on Saturday in parts of south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter in the wee hours of Friday.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the road in Tral and Awantipora and their adjoining areas for the second day. Work in government offices and banks was also affected. Educational institutions also remained closed in these areas.

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has also postponed all examinations which were scheduled for today. The university had also postponed examinations yesterday.

However, situation in Pampore was near normal as most of the shops and business establishments were open after remaining closed yesterday. Educational institutions were also functioning normally there.

The authorities have deployed additional security forces at Tral, Awantipora and Pampore, including on national highway, to prevent any untoward incident.

Two miltants Rasiq Nabi Bhat, a resident of Tral and Shabir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Awantipora, were killed in an encounter by security forces at Balhama Khonmoh in the wee hours on Friday. A CRPF jawan was also injured in the shootout.
