JAMMU : In the shameful incident of rape of a minor girl by a Muslim cleric at Nagrota, the court on Friday granted one week police remand of accused for further investigation.
“Police have obtained a week-long remand order against accused person,” said a senior police officer, identifying the accused as Shahnawaz.
Official sources further said that police also produced the victim girl before court where her statement was recorded under section 164-A. Official sources said that in her statement she said that her cleric raped her and threatened her of consequences if she divulged the incident before anybody. The girl, however, narrated the incident before her parents.
Meanwhile, police said that during questioning, the accused person informed that he was brought to Nagrota, some two years back, from West Bengal by his uncle who is also a cleric in Jammu.
Pertinently the victim’s family filed a First Information Report at the Nagrota police station on March 12 after the girl had complained of pain in her private parts.
The seven-year-old girl used to study in a local Madrassa at Bajalta. Police later booked accused under section 376 of CRPC.
