JAMMU : Strongly condemning the terror attack on its leader Anwar Khan on Thursday, BJP said guns cannot silence the voice of those who long for peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir.

The terrorists had tried to snatch the service rifle of constable Bilal Ahmad, who is the personal security officer (PSO) of Khan, at Balhama in Pulwama district. The terrorists were then holed up in a house and were killed in a fierce gunfight, last night. Both of the terrorists were identified as locals after forces recovered their bodies from under the debris of the house where they had taken shelter.

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh on Friday condemned attack on senior leader Anwar Khan, while describing the attack as handy work of elements to disrupt the peace.

“These acts need to be condemned,” he said.

BJP state president Sat Sharma said, "Guns cannot silence the voice of those, who long for peace and development. These type of attacks can't stop BJP's dedicated workers in Kashmir from choosing better future."

He said the incident stands testimony to the fact that the separatists and the terrorists along with their supporters are worried of the developments in the Kashmir region.

"We strongly condemn the attack and express our sympathy to the injured cop.

"It is a cowardly act of terrorists who attacked the party leader, Khan. We express sympathy for injured police personnel, who was guarding him", Sat said.

BJP state general secretary Narinder Singh, who also happens to be the in-charge for Kashmir region said that such acts cannot act as a deterrent in the peace process.

He said the common people in Kashmir have decided to vote for ballot over the bullet and the hate mongers are not able to digest the fact.

Meanwhile, in the wee hours of Friday, bodies of two terrorists who were killed last night were recovered near the encounter site.

“Arms and ammunition besides incriminating materials were recovered near the encounter site,” an official informed, adding that the operation has ended.

The slain terrorists were identified by their families as Rasiq Nabi Bhat of Tral and Shabir Dar of Awantipora, he said.

Spokesman said as per police records Bhat and Dar had joined militancy last year in the month of March and August respectively. The dead bodies were handed over to their legal heirs for last rites. Further investigation was going on.
