PM calls upon scientists to spend 100 hours with 100 students every year

Imphal, Mar 16 : Giving a clarion call to the scientists to spend 100 hours every year with 100 students of Classes X, XI and XII to inculcate scientific knowledge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said, ' Scientific and social responsibility are the need of the hour. ”
Inaugurating the 105th Indian Science Congress at Manipur Universityhere, Mr Modi asked, ' Are we doing enough to ensure that our childrenget sufficient exposure to science in India ? '
The Prime Minister said holding of the Science Congress in Imphal for the second time bore an eloquent testimony to the spirit to develop science in the region.
He appealed to the scientists to put emphasis on research and development and invent things to make life easier.
He said just as Subhas Chandra Bose called upon the nation to fight for freedom in April 1944, the scientists should work closely to help the people live a life of ease.
He further appealed to the scientific community to follow the footsteps of scientists like J C Bose, C V Raman, Meghnad Saha, S N Bose and help in providing socio economic solutions.
He said, ' We should recognise the works of scientist like Raj Gopalan who invented a way of using plastics to make roads in Madurai. He has given the technology to the government for free and 5000 km of roads are being constructed in eleven states using the technology. '
The Prime Minister said scientists were developing means to use garbage also and added, ' To stop climate change we have to start using non-fossil fuel and the government is committed to increasing the share of non-fossil fuel based capacity in the electricity mix above 40 per cent by 2030. '
