PM inaugurates Science Congress, urges scientists to spend 100 hours with 100 students

Imphal, Mar 16 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked the scientists to spend 100 hours every year with 100 students of Classes X, XI and XII so that we can inculcate scientific knowledge into them.

Inaugurating the 105th Indian Science Congress at Manipur University here, he said, “scientific and social responsibility are the need of the hour” and asked if we were doing enough to ensure that our children were getting sufficient exposure to science in India. He said scientists should spend 100 hours every year with 100 students of Classes X, XI and XII so that we can inculcate scientific knowledge into children.

Addressing the gathering of eminent scientists from all over the country and abroad including three Nobel laureates , Modi paid tributes to Indian scientists Prof Yashpal, U R Rao, Baldev for pioneering the science movement and renowned scientists Stephen Hawking. He said Hawking was the brightest star and a friend of India. He described Hawking as the greatest motivator of all times.

The PM further said holding of the Science Congress in Imphal for the second time is a testimony of the spirit to develop science in the region. He appealed to the scientists to give emphasis on research and development and invent goods which will make life easy.

He said just as Subhas Chandra Bose called upon the nation to fight for freedom in April 1944, the scientists should work closely to help the people live a life of ease. The developments in meteriological science has helped over five lakh farmers in the north east he added.
