Quake jolts J&K

JAMMU : An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale hit the state as major tremors were felt in the Kishtwar district of Jammu region on Thursday night.
Official sources confirmed that an earthquake Jolted Jammu & Kashmir areas including Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban and other parts of J&K at about 08:25 pm.
There was no damage to life or property as the quake was a low-density one.
The state was hit by yet another earthquake earlier in the week on March 10. IMD had said that the depth of the 4.5 quake was 10 kilometers and it resulted in jolts for a few seconds across most parts of the state.
Meanwhile, a person was rescued after being hit by a minor avalanche in Ganderbal district of Kashmir Valley.
“Around 2pm on Thursday, a minor avalanche hits Shitkari area of Sonamarg, Ganderbal. An employee of APCO Construction company.pvt Ltd namely Dharam Prakash Singh son of Narender Bahadur resident of Premgadh Danigunj Uttar Pradesh (A/P Electrician of APCO Tunnel construction) got trapped,” police said.
As soon as Ganderbal police received the information, a special team was constituted comprising of police parties from Police Station Sonamarg, Police Station Gund and Police Post Gagangeer immediately to rescue the trapped person. The team rescued and evacuated him to safety.
