Encounter on btw SF-militants after attack on BJP leader, PSO injured

Srinagar, Mar 15 : An encounter ensued between security forces and militants, who attacked a Bharatiya Janata Party leader on the city outskirts during which a Personnel Security Officer (PSO) was injured on Thursday afternoon, official sources said.

A police spokesman said the condition of PSO identified as Bilal Ahmad was stable and a massive hunt has been launched in the area to nab the militants responsible for the attack.

However, when the security forces were conducting searches in the nearby areas, militants hiding there after attack on BJP leader, opened fire. Security forces immediately returned the fire, they said, adding additional security forces have been rushed and entire area was cordoned off.

Further details are awaited, they said.

Earlier, militants attacked a BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan at Balhama Khanmoh on the city outskirts. However, two PSOs of the leader repulsed the attack. They said PSOs also retaliated, adding the militants managed to escape. One of the PSO was injured in the attack. However, the leader escaped unhurt in the attack.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a massive hunt to nab the attackers, they said.

A police spokesman said the policeman injured in the attack was absolutely stable. He said PSO exhibited extreme care and caution while repulsing the attack. There was no collateral damage and the area is under cordon and searches were being conducted to nab the militants.

No militant has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
