Fake police nabbed by Crime Branch, uniforms, equipment recovered

Mumbai, Mar 15 : A 28-year-old man has been arrested by the Crime Branch Unit X for allegedly cheating people by assuring them government jobs in various department in
Mantralaya, BMC and other offices.

Receiving several complaints against the 'fake policeman', the Crime Branch swung into action and
formed the special team to nab the accused.

According to Crime Branch sources, after going through prior investigations, they figured out that the accused was using a 'POLICE' tag (sticker) on his bike and car. They also discovered that he had committed similar crimes in Oshiwara in February and in MIDC in March.

In both cases, he cheated the unsuspecting people with the assurance that he will help them in securing government jobs and to obtain BMC licenses.

On Tuesday the police received reliable information about a man using a police tag on his vehicles.

They also received information that he would visit Aarey colony, Andheri, Dindoshi and its adjoining area regularly.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near Sanjay Gandhi Society in Goregaon (E) and detailed the accused, Sagar Walmiki (alias Rakesh).

Upon searching his car, Crime Branch officials found a police constable's cap, a police belt and fake
documents which he was using to cheat people.
Through interrogation, it was learnt that, he had cheated more than 22 people until date of more
than 10 lakhs in total.

He was produced before the court on Thursday and sent to police custody.
