Manik Sarkar elected as opposition leader

Agartala, Mar 15 : Opposition CPI-M elected politburo member and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar as their leader of the assembly in a meeting of CPI-M legislators last evening, party said in a statement today.

A meeting of the newly elected 16 MLAs of the party also elected Badal Chowdhury as the deputy leader and Tapan Chakraborty as Chief Whip while Prabhat Choudhury was made deputy whip.

The meeting was presided over by former minister Badal Choudhury and attended by party secretary Bijan Dhar and state committee member Goutam Das, the statement added.

The party legislators will be vocal in the House against the government for post poll violence and atrocities on the opposition supporters.
