Imphal, March 14 : N. Biren Singh, who leads the coalition government in Manipur, on Wednesday said the state government has collected Rs 831 crore as revenue in the current financial year.

The revenue target for the next financial year is Rs 948 crore, he added.

Singh was speaking one day ahead of the first anniversary of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government in Manipur.

Singh said: "The previous Congress government could only collect Rs 586 crore as revenue."

He attributed the higher revenue collection to the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax and revenue from forest products.

The Chief Minister said his government was focusing on development projects and is all for balanced development of both the hills and the valley.

Special emphasis is being laid on having a corruption-free government in Manipur, he added.

In order to check infiltration of foreigners the government has stepped up patrolling in the border areas of Moreh, Jiri and Behang.

Singh also said that under the BJP-led government there has been no blockade or strike which were the order of the day during the Congress regime.

However, former Chief Minister and opposition leader Okram Ibobi Singh disputed the claims. Quoting statistics, the Congress leader said there have been blockades of all sorts and the difference is only in the degree.
