Jaundice surfaces in Sambalpur, hospitals crowded with large number of patients

Sambalpur, Mar 14 : Jaundice and Typhoid fever have shown their ugly faces in Sambalpur city again with large number of people reported to be suffering from the two diseases.

Since the numbers have risen in the last week, patients are queueing in the hospitals for treatment.

Sambalpur Chief District Medical Officer Dr. K K Gupta said the testing of blood samples in slum areas of the city confirmed presence of jaundice virus in people.

“However, the CDMO said adequate measures are being taken to prevent the disease spread to other areas.

"The health officials have advised people to drink boiled water as a precautionary measures, ” Dr. Gupta said.

In the year 2014, jaundice had spread like epidemic in Sambalpur and several people had died of the disease, causing much embarrassment to the state government then. Ill maintained drains and water contamination were said to be the reasons behind the spread of the disease.
