LS adjourned till noon over Andhra demand, other issues, guillotine to be applied

New Delhi, Mar 14 : Diverse issues, including Andhra demand for special category status and other regional issues, disrupted the proceedings in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

As the House assembled for the day, slogan-shouting members stormed into the Well and created a ruckus, forcing Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the proceedings of the House till noon.

'We are ready for all types of discussions and making efforts to run house smoothly for last one and half week,' Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said.

Mr Kumar urged the Speaker to apply guillotine to pass Demands For Grants, Appropriation Bill and the Finance Bill.

The Speaker said the sittings of House are being disrupted and the guillotine will be applied to get the crucial legislative business passed in Parliament.

Within five minutes of assembling, the Speaker adjourned proceedings till 1200 hrs, without conducting Question Hour and announced that the guillotine will be applied on the demands for grants at 1200 hrs.

After the guillotine is applied, all outstanding demands for grants from various departments will be put to vote at once whether they are discussed or not.

Protests in the Lok Sabha over the range of diverse issues continued disrupting the resumed Budget Session.

All the protesting members, including from the Telugu Desam Party, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kaghazam, YSR Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), trooped into the Well, raising anti-government slogans and displaying placards.

AIADMK lawmakers demanded setting up of Cauvery Water Management Board while Telugu Desam Party members and YSR Congress Members carried placards demanding Special Category status for Andhra Pradesh.

TRS members were demanding to increase the quota of reservation in Telangana State.
