Srinagar, Mar 13 : Train services resumed on Tuesday after remaining suspended for a day in the Kashmir valley, where three militants were killed in an encounter by security forces in Anantnag yesterday.

'We have resumed train service and all trains will operate as per schedule in the Valley following fresh advisory from police last night,' a senior railway official told TNN.

Now trains will chug on Badgam-Srinagar- Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region. Similarly, it will also run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir.

'We had to suspend trains after an advisory yesterday though some trains had left different stations,' he said. The trains were later stopped at different stations for security reasons. He said Mondays normally witness a heavy rush of passengers who resume their normal activities after a holiday.

According to the official, the decision to suspend train service was being taken in the interest of passengers and railway property. During protests and demonstrations, railways have suffered heavy losses in the past. Last year, train service was suspended over 50 times for security reasons, but in 2016, it remained suspended for about six months due to summer unrest.
