DG Prison briefs Guv

Governor N N Vohra on Monday called for effective security arrangements in the jails in the state as he was briefed by Director General (Prisons) Dilbag Singh who had called on Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.
Speaking to DG Singh, the governor stressed on the importance of ensuring effective security arrangements in the jails. He insisted that the jails must ensure welfare of prisoners, function according to the Jail Manual, and house adequate medical arrangements, an official statement said.
Singh briefed the governor about his recent visits to various jails to review their functioning.
He also discussed issues related to adequacy of the number and existing capacity of the jails, and the gaps in their day-to-day administration, the statement said.
The DG also informed Vohra about prisoner welfare programmes being run in the jails, it added.
