Srinagar, Mar 12 : Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest early Monday morning, while JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik was arrested and lodged in a local police station in the summer capital here.
Meanwhile, restrictions of 'staying at home' on hardline amalgam chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani continued from last about two years.

The move by the administration comes hours after three militants, including two locals -- Eesa Fazli, a resident of Srinagar and Syed Owais of Kokernag in Anantnag -- were killed in an encounter with security forces in village Hakoora in Anantnag in the wee hours on Monday, triggering massive protests in many places in the valley.

“Security forces and state police personnel were deployed outside Nigeen, the Mirwaiz's residence, early this morning. He was informed that he cannot leave the house till further orders,” a moderate Hurriyat spokesman told TNN.

A spokesperson for the JKLF said a police team raided the residence of Malik in Maisuma early this morning and arrested him. The JKLF chief has been lodged in Kothi Bagh police station, he added.
