Hate Story 4: Movie review

New Delhi: The first reviews of the latest installment of the famous erotic thriller, Hate Story, are here. Hate Story 4 had the hangover of its previous three installments in the sense that this one too has two brothers pitched against each other, for a woman.

The fourth edition of the Hate Story stars Urvashi Rautela, Karan Wahi, Vivan Bhatena and Ihana Dhillon in lead roles. As the film hit the screens today, it would be interesting to see if the lead stars are able to re-create the magic on-screen like its predecessors or fall flat?

Here, we bring to you some of critics' reviews of the film:

Indianexpress.com: Part of the squelchy pleasure of watching a film like Hate Story IV, the fourth part of a series toplining lots of semi-naked bodies, lots of leading-up-to-steamy-sex scenes (it may be an adult film, but we don’t show the sex, we go all the way up to it, and then dive under the covers; we’re squeamish like that), and lots of hilarious dialogue, is to divine just exactly how much squelch there is.

Deccan Chronicle: Like the steamy scenes in satin lingeries as shown in the trailer, the film wouldn't disappoint you on the skin show quotient. From the first frame, Hate Story IV has only sleaze to offer. The songs have been used a promotional tool to grab the audience to the theatres, especially Aashiq Banaya Apne and Naam Hai Mera. And what was dialogue writer Milap Zaveri thinking while penning down the dialogues? They are cheesy and ridiculous. Looks like with every instalment Hate Story franchise is decaying. Hate Story IV has so many twists that after a while you start recollecting Abbas Mustan’s hit multi-starer thriller Race. Watch Hate Story IV only if you are an ardent follower of the franchise, else it's not a good pick this weekend.

Firstpost: Hate Story is the only successful erotic revenge thriller genre franchise and that is evident from the box office collection report of the previous instalments. But this time around the theme of Hate Story IV can be perfectly summed up as ‘Reality is stranger than fiction’.

Bollywoodhungama.com: "Urvashi Rautela has the oomph factor for sure and it comes to the fore very well. Sammeer Arora's story is a bit weak and has far too many twists and turns after a point. On the whole, HATE STORY IV has its fair share of intimacy and thrill, which has been the primary reason for the success of the series. The film has enough steamy scenes and thrill to give the target audience its money's worth. Milap Milan Zaveri's dialogues are appealing and massy. Vishal Pandya's direction is decent. He ensures that the film remains a complete commercial masala fare. At the box office, it will prove to be a safe bet for the makers considering its investment and the returns. "

Allindiaroundup.com: "Just like it’s previous parts this movie is also a revenge drama, And of course, the revenge is served hot which makes the series special, This movie is all about exploiting Urvashi’s beauty in every possible way. Romantic scenes between Urvashi-Karan and Urvashi-Vivan will make you go awe. There is nothing much new to talk about the story, And seriously who cares about the story in Hate Story series. There are few scenes which make you feel bored at times but later the movie covers it up."

Koimoi.com: Penned by Sameer Arora, the story of 'Hate Story 4' is same old revenge drama but stylish. Falling for the same girl, faceoff in the climax & many more things which we’ve seen before. There surely are some interesting twists and turns but the average narration kills the pace. The only thing I want to know is why makers tend to infuse so much of melodrama in erotic thrillers? Who the hell on earth replies "You love my body because it has 65% of water" to "I love water" kind of comment? That has been the major issue with such movies like 'Hate Story 3', 'Aksar 2', 'Julie 2' and much more.
