SRINAGAR: The selection of PDP Vice President Sartaj Madni's son as Executive Officer in Jammu and Kashmir Khadi and Village Board, besides PDP General Secretary Peerzada Mansoor's nephew, Peer Kashif Hussain appearing in the waiting list for the post has raised eyebrows, with the dropped candidates alleging that he was appointed on political influence, while the Opposition National Conference termed the selection process as cruel joke.
Reacting to the allegations, Madni has said that children of political workers have also right to exist with dignity and if that is not the case, "then bring them to Lal Chowk and hang them."
Syed Aroot Madni- son of Sartaj Madni and maternal cousin of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti figures at serial number 2 in the list of candidates selected as Executive Officer in J&K KVIB with roll number 703982 whereas Peer Kashif Hussain who figures at serial number 2 at the waiting list with roll number 101830 is nephew of PDP General Secretary Mansoor, who is also the vice-chairman of the KVIB.
In October 2016, KVIB had advertised various posts including Executive Officer, Assistant Executive Officer, Publicity Officer, Field Publicity Officer, Junior Assistants and Supervisors. The written test was held in August 2017 and interviews were held in the last week of January.
However, KVIB did not advertise or recruit the candidates through Service Selection Board but its officials say that the recruitment was done by a private agency and officials of the Law and Parliamentary department.
The selection drew outrage and criticism on social media sites, with netizens also alleging that he has been appointed being son of the ruling PDP's vice president.
Lashing out at the abuse of power by PDP, the Opposition National Conference said PDP's tall rhetoric has fallen flat on its face and the list of the JKVIB is another proof of PDP's insidious and nepotistic style of politics.
NC State Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu said nost of the people figuring in the final list issued by KVIB are either children of close associates of PDP leaders or have direct patronage from the powers that be.
"The list includes not only the son of PDP Vice President, Syed Aroot Madni, who figures in the list with roll number 703982 issued by JKVIB, but also PDP General Secretary Peerzada Mansoor's nephew, Peer Kashif Hussain figures at serial number 2 at the waiting list with roll number 101830," the NC State Spokesperson said, demanding an immediate independent probe into the selection.
"Is this why the State Government has placed its leaders as VCs of these boards? So that they could adjust their children in these institutions? What is the message you are sending out to our youth?" he questioned.
The 2009 IAS topper Shah Faesal- Managing Director of JK's Power Development Corporation wrote on his Facebook page that "If it's true that the merit list has been rigged, then instead of an inquiry there should be an FIR. (It is) high time that we take those people to task who push our educated youngsters to wall and kill their confidence."
However, the officials concerned with the recruitment said the process "transparent".
Commissioner Secretary Law and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Majid Bhat, who was Controller Examination for the entire process, said a private recruiting agency from outside was hired for "transparent" selection.
Reacting to the allegations, Madni reportedly said children of political workers have also right to exist with dignity. "If they don't have the right of dignified life then bring them to Lal Chowk and hang them," he said.
